Upgrading from version 5.0.7.3-5.1.0.x to version 5.1.1.23

Please follow the steps below to upgrade an existing 5.0.7.3-5.1.0.x installation to Sitecore 5.1.1.23.

Important Note: it is not possible to upgrade from version 5.1.1.4 to 5.1.1.21. Nevertheless, you can use the common Sitecore package to transfer the data from 5.1.1.4 to a clean 5.1.1.23 installation.

1. Backup the Site

Before beginning this or any Sitecore upgrade, be sure to make a full backup of your existing site.

2. Install Sitecore 5.1.1

Perform a new installation of Sitecore 5.1.1.

3. Copy Files

Copy files from the previous Sitecore installation web root into the new Sitecore web root.

4. Update IIS

Change the IIS web site home location.

5. Run the Upgrade Script

The Sitecore 5.1 installation includes an upgrade script that you can run by visiting the appropriate upgrade URL.

6. Changing Database Storage Type

By default, Sitecore is configured to use Firebird database as its data storage. By editing web.config, this can be changed to SQL Server.

7. Merge the web.config

Copy the changes made to the web.config file to the Sitecore 5.1 web.config file.

8. Test the Site

The upgrade process is now complete. Perform a full test of the web site.
